Ballroom Dance Background
Top Hat Dance Studio teaches both the American and International styles of Ballroom dancing. As the name implies, American is a standardized style danced primarily in America, whereas the International style is danced all around the world. The main difference between the two styles is that American is comprised of dances that orginated in social settings and International was developed primarily for dance competitions. However today, there are social dances and competitions in both American and International styles. The dances included in both styles are:
American StyleInternational Style
- Smooth Dances - Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz
- Rhythm Dances - Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Bolero, Mambo
- Standard Dances - Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep
- Latin Dances - Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive
Top Hat Ballroom Dance Level Descriptions
Basic Ballroom: This is an entry level class designed for first time and beginning dancers. All of the basic steps of the social dances will be taught. This is the class where the basic techniques will be taught, and is the foundation on which the more advanced steps will be built. Line of dance, which allows movement around the dance floor with ease, will also be taught.
Intermediate Ballroom
This is a bronze level class for students who have been dancing for at least one year or who have mastered all of the basic steps and techniques. The Ballroom and Latin dances will be taught with a concentration on leading, following and connection. Also, students will be given the opportunity to explore their individual style and emotions.
Lesson Locations
Ballroom dance classes are offered at both the Philadelphia and Lancaster studios.
Partner Suggestions
Bringing a partner to class is highly encouraged, but not required. This will allow you to practice after the class is over. However, if you do not have a partner, please join us, what better way to meet a dance partner with similar interest?
Prices
Each ballroom dance lesson is $10 per person. Discounts are available with a Top Hat Dance Studio group class card.
Dance Rotation
The dance taught in each ballroom class is rotated every six weeks.
