Top Hat & Tales: April 2008 Edition
Dear Top Hat,
Happy Spring everyone!! With the Philadelphia Festival Dancesport Championships coming up this weekend, the studio is buzzing with excitement and anticipation. We wish all of the competitors next weekend a great weekend of dance!
There are also 2 great shows in Lancaster County that you definitely want to get tickets to go see. Top Hat's own Daniel McGee has been working at GSPA in New Holland as the choreographer of Annie. The show dates are this weekend, Thursday, April 10th thru Sunday, April 13th. Daniel and Jameson have also been choreographing a number for Hempfield's annual Dance Theater production. Show dates for Dance Theater are Friday, May 2nd thru Sunday, May 4th. Tickets for both shows will definitely go fast, so be sure to get your tickets soon. Both Daniel and Jameson have had a great time working with both of these great groups of kids and hope you enjoy the show!
Also looking into April starting on April 22th our West Coast Swing classes will be moving to Tuesday Nights. Be sure to read more about the exciting new classes at Top Hat!!

New West Coast Swing Classes with Jameson Kilburn
Level 1 is the place to learn the basics and build a strong foundation. The mysteries of 6 & 8 count patterns will be unraveled as you perfect whips, tuck turns, and other fun steps. If you have experience in WCS, consider taking this class to sharpen your skills.
Level 2 will expand your knowledge of West Coast Swing by focusing on more advanced and intricate steps. This class promises to help every dancer with musicality as Jameson will help you hear and accentuate hits and breaks.
Starting Tuesday, April 22nd, Top Hat Dance Studio will be adding two new West Coast Swing classes to the Philadelphia weekly schedule! Jameson Kilburn will be teaching two energetic and fun-filled classes that are sure to put a spark in your West Coast Swing. The Level 1 class will begin at 7:00pm and the Level 2 class will start at 8:00pm. Classes will work on 6 week rotations.

Student of the Month Spotlight
Meet Marty Lozanoff, April's Student of the Month Spotlight...
 Several years ago, Marty Lozanoff found himself in an awkwardsituation. He was attending an elegant dinner party and without any knowledge of social dancing, he was unable to ask his companions to dance. This single event led him to overcome his life long fear of dancing. He has been on this journey now for 6 years, 4 of those years as a part of our Top Hat family.
What he did not anticipate was the enjoyment of dance and the relationships cultivated through classes and dance parties. Marty views classes as not simply a means to an end. He thoroughly enjoys the learning process and takes pleasure in the knowledge garnered from each class. Marty has a variety of favorite dance styles; a few of them being West Coast Swing, Salsa, Nightclub Two Step, and Bolero.
Beyond the education, the interaction and social environment of each class keep him coming back. Regarding the relationships he has gained, Marty said, "Dancing is what we have in common but it goes way beyond that; it is a feeling of community."
His favorite aspects of Top Hat Dance Studio are the caliber and quality of the instructors and staff. "The teachers and staff at Top Hat foster a giving and generous attitude that is apparent not only in the staff but in the students as well."
Marty is living proof that overcoming a fear can turn into a positive life altering experience. We are delighted that Marty's dance journey led him to Top Hat Dance Studio and that he has become one of the studio's treasured family members. He is truly an inspiration to everyone he meets.

Spring Showcase
Recital time is here again and this year is going to be bigger and better than ever! The youth have been busy rehearsing pieces that are sure to put a smile on every face. Besides the young Top Hat dancers, the Spring Showcase will also include performances from some of your favorite Top Hat staff members.
The Spring Showcase will be held on June 8th at 2:00pm with a reception following the performance. Due to growth in the youth program, the event will be held at Cannstatter's ◦ 9130 Academy Rd, Philadelphia. Admission for the event is $7 per person. Tickets will be available at the studio and at the door.
The Spring Showcase is open to everyone so please come out to support the young members of the Top Hat Family!

THDS Student on "So You Think You Can Dance" in Greece
Georgette Korizis is an accomplished dancer at just 17 years of age. She has trained in a variety of styles including jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. Georgette auditioned in New York and was selected as one of the Top 20 finalists for the Greek version of "So You Think You Can Dance". After the audition, she came to Top Hat to learn Ballroom and Salsa for the show. Marshall taught her ballroom lessons, Ginny worked on styling, and Joe Figueroa taught salsa.
The live show is already in progress and Georgette is doing quite well. The show airs in Greece Sunday's at 9:00pm. Highlights and videos from each episode can be found at www.megatv.com/dance. Everyone at Top Hat wishes her the very best in this competition!

April Studio Schedule
Philadelphia
:
Beginning in April, Yoga classes have been removed from the Monday Night schedule.. Please keep your eyes open for announcements of the new start time and date.
Salsa classes start a new series at the beginning of every month. The current start date is April 4th for Salsa.
New Sunday Classes begin April 6th. In April, the Ladies Styling Class (1:00pm) will be taught by Delilah Bass. Joe Figueroa will be teaching Nightclub Cha Cha in the Latin Alternative Class (4:00pm) during April.
There will be 2 parties in April!
The Salsa Dance Party will be held on Saturday, April 5th. The Swing & Hustle Dance Party will be held on April 26th.
Both parties include an all levels group class at 8:00pm with the party beginning at 9:00pm. The cost is $10 per person and you are welcome to BYOB. If you have any questions, please contact the studio.

Lancaster:
Basic Ballroom Classes change dances on April 23rd. Basic Ballroom 1 (7:30pm) will begin Samba and Basic Ballroom 2 (8:30pm) will be continuing with Tango.
On April 24th, the Latin 3 Class (6:00pm) will be starting Cha Cha and the Smooth 3 Class (7:00pm) will continue with Foxtrot.
The monthly studio party is on Friday, April 25th. There will be a group class at 8:00pm and the party will immediately follow at 9:00pm.

Upcoming Competitions
 Philadelphia Festival Dancesport Championships: April 11 - 13, 2008
Ballroom & Latin Dancing at its BEST! This is Philadelphia's hometown dance competition and hosts Sandy & Andy Fortuna have always provided one of the best weekends of dance in the area. There are competitions throughout the weekend and a top notch Saturday Night Banquet and Show. Many Top Hat students will be participating in this event. Please be sure to wish everyone good luck!
